A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CHANGES IN THE CURRENT METHOD OF CONTROLLING THROUGH TRAFFIC ON BRIARBRIGE LANE (2006-01-09/R-6)

WHEREAS, in 1988, the Council approved installation of a traffic control gate on Briarbridge Lane to prohibit through traffic, as requested by the local area residents; and

WHEREAS, in 1989, the Council received an assessment report indicating that through traffic had been significantly reduced on Briarbridge Lane following installation of the gate; and

WHEREAS, at its November 9, 2005 meeting the Council received a petition from the residents of #2 Briarbridge Lane requesting changes in the current method of controlling through traffic on Briarbridge Lane; and

WHEREAS, the Council determined that traffic control measures on Briarbridge Lane could be changed while continuing to meet the objective of the existing gate and also improving access and circulation for the residents of #2 Briarbridge Lane and for neighborhood pedestrians and cyclists;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council hereby authorizes the Manager to change the current method of controlling through traffic on Briarbridge Lane as follows:

·         Remove the existing traffic control gate on Briarbridge Lane.

·         Install removable bollards and appropriate traffic control signs on Briarbridge Lane at a location approved by the Town Traffic Engineer.
