MEMORANDUM

TO:                  Mayor and Town Council

FROM:            W. Calvin Horton, Town Manager

SUBJECT:      Appointment of Council Member and Staff Member to Inter-Faith Council Men’s Residential Facility Work Group, and Inter-Faith Council Comprehensive Service Center Work Group

DATE:            April 24, 2006

PURPOSE

The purpose of this report is to recommend that the Council appoint a Council member to separate Inter-Faith Council work groups that will address the men’s residential facility and a comprehensive service center.

BACKGROUND

At the March 30, 2006 Assembly of Governments meeting, the Inter-Faith Council (IFC) for Social Services requested that each of three units of government, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Orange County, appoint one elected official and one staff member to participate in the Men’s Residential Facility Work Group and in the Comprehensive Service Center Work Group.

The Men’s Residential Facility Work Group will focus on securing a site and funding for a comprehensive men’s residential facility. The Comprehensive Service Center Work Group will identify an appropriate facility/site to house the IFC Food Pantry/Kitchen, Crisis Intervention/Case Management, and Administrative Offices.

RECOMMENDATION

That the Council adopt the attached resolutions [ 2006-04-24/R-11 and 2006-04-24/R-12 ] to appoint Council members and request the Manager to designate staff members to serve on the two work groups.
