AGENDA #5d

MEMORANDUM

TO:

Mayor and Town Council

FROM:

Tab Combs, Chair

Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board

SUBJECT:

Bicycle Commuter Access to Research Triangle Park

DATE:

November 6, 2006

On October 24, 2006 the Board discussed the Mayor’s petition to explore the possibility of a bicycle commuter route from Chapel Hill to the Research Triangle Park.

The Board advises that it has been invited to a joint meeting – with the Durham Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission http://www.bikewalkdurham.org and the Capital Area Bicycle and Pedestrian Stakeholders Group http://www.campo-nc.us/BPSG/BPSG_Home.htm. The meeting date has to be scheduled, however, and the Board plans to request that the idea be an agenda item.

The Board also suggests that because a route would be located beyond the jurisdiction of the Town of Chapel Hill that the idea be referred to the planning staff of the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization.
