Memorandum

to:                  Mayor and Town Council

from:            Roger L. Stancil, Town Manager

subject:       UNC South Electrical Substation, 120 Old Mason Farm Road, Special Use Permit Modification Application (File No. 9788-54-5304)

date:             June 9, 2008

PURPOSE

Tonight, the Council continues the May 12, 2008 public hearing /agendas/2008/05/12 regarding an application from the University of North Carolina for the UNC South Electrical Substation Special Use Permit Modification.  The site is on the east side of Fordham Boulevard, on the south side of Old Mason Farm Road, adjacent to the North Carolina Botanical Garden.

The public hearing has been continued to receive evidence in support of and in opposition to approval of the application, as the Council determines the appropriate action on the application. The purpose of this cover memorandum is to forward my recommendation to the Council.

MAnager’s recommendation

I have reviewed and discussed the key issues with Town staff. Based on the information in the record to date, I believe that, with the adoption of Resolution A, the Council could make the findings required to approve an application for a Special Use Permit Modification. Further evidence concerning this application may be submitted at tonight’s public hearing.

Resolution A has remained the same since the public hearing, at which time no comments were received.
