A RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THE NAME OF MILDRED RINGWALT FOR PLACEMENT ON THE PEACE AND JUSTICE PLAZA MARKER (2008-06-09/ R-5a)

 

WHEREAS, the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill approved naming the space in front of the old Post Office the Peace and Justice Plaza and the placement of a stone marker at the site that would display the names of citizens who had given much of their lives to the causes of peace and justice in our community; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill also approved adding the names of deceased social activists Joe and Lucy Straley, Charlotte Adams, Joe Herzenberg, Hubert Robinson, James R. Brittain, Henry “Hank” Anderson III, and Gloria Williams, and

 

WHEREAS, the Council Naming Committee accepted the recommendation by Roscoe and Mary Reeve that Mildred Ringwalt, deceased mother of Mary Reeve, be engraved on the marker along with the above names.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the name of Mildred Ringwalt be included with the above mentioned names to be engraved alphabetical order on the Peace and Justice Plaza marker.
