SUBJECT:

Report on a Maintenance Program for Street Stub Out Signs

DATE:

June 9, 2008

PURPOSE

This report provides information on a proposal for maintenance of street stub out signs in the Town.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

At its October 17, 2007 meeting, as part of the Purefoy Drive Development Public Hearing, the Council asked Town staff to develop a program for maintenance of street stub out signs. We informed the Council that we would develop a map identifying the streets that are planned for future extension and a proposal on how to maintain the signs.

Typically, streets that are approved for future extension by the Town Council and the associated street stub out signs are reviewed and approved by the Town staff as part of the final plan review.  The signs are maintained by the Homeowners Association until such time that the Town takes over the maintenance of the street. Often we receive concerns that the stub out signs are missing and are not properly maintained by the Home Owners’ Association.

We developed a map (Attachment 1) with the streets approved for future extension Townwide.  We also developed new design for the stub out signs as provided in Attachment 2. The Town staff from the traffic division prepared and installed the new stub out signs at the end of each street that is planned for future extension.

We recommend the following program for maintenance of the stub out signs:

CONCLUSION

We think that the above proposal for maintenance of the street stub out signs would eliminate confusion and provide a mechanism to maintain the signs in accordance with Town standards.
