Memorandum

to:                  Mayor and Town Council

from:            Roger L. Stancil, Town Manager

subject:      UNC Innovation Center, 110 Municipal Drive, Special Use Permit Application (File No. 9779-88-6375)

date:            January 26, 2009

PURPOSE

Tonight, the Council continues the September 17, 2008 public hearing [http://townhall.townofchapelhill.org/agendas/2008/09/17] regarding an application from the University of North Carolina for the UNC Innovation Center Special Use Permit.  The site is on the west side of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, north of Estes Drive and across from Piney Mountain Road.

The public hearing has been continued to receive evidence in support of and in opposition to approval of the application, as the Council determines the appropriate action on the application. The purpose of this cover memorandum is to forward my recommendation to the Council.

MAnager’s  recommendation

I have reviewed and discussed the key issues with Town staff. Based on the information in the record to date, I believe that, with the adoption of revised Resolution A, the Council could make the findings required to approve an application for a Special Use Permit.  Further evidence concerning this application may be submitted at tonight’s public hearing.
