MEMORANDUM

TO:                  Mayor and Town Council

FROM:            Chapel Hill Technology Committee

SUBJECT:        Membership Recommendations

DATE:             June 15, 2004

BACKGROUND

The Technology Committee held a regularly scheduled meeting on June 15, 2004.  Seven members were in attendance: Ralph Beisner, Terrelle Buckner, Evelyn Daniel, Doug Noell, Roscoe Reeve, Alan Rimer, and Donald Shaw.

The Committee reviewed membership status and noted that ten members had terms that are due to expire on June 30, 2004, and one additional member has resigned resulting in eleven available positions.  Three of these will be filled by a Town Council approved one-year extension for William Groves, Roscoe Reeve, and Alan Rimer.  For the remaining eight positions there is one application for a second term (Evelyn Daniel) and six new applications: Aris Buinevicius, Gregg Gerdau, Steve Irving, Karim Kheireddine, Uzoma Nwosu, and Brandon Perkins.

The Committee reviewed the applications and recommended that all applicants be approved. Several applications had been recently received and did not allow time for the applicant to attend a meeting; however, the backgrounds and experiences identified on the applications provided sufficient information to merit a positive recommendation.

If all applicants are accepted by the Council, one vacancy will remain that could be filled in the fall of 2004.

RECOMMENDATION

The Technology Committee recommends approving membership for the following: Evelyn Daniel (renewal), Aris Buinevicius, Gregg Gerdau, Steve Irving, Karim Kheireddine, Uzoma Nwosu, and Brandon Perkins.
