SUBJECT: Appointments to Rental Licensing Work Group

Adoption of the attached resolutions would appoint Council Member Strom as co-convenor of the Rental Licensing Work Group and Brittany Whitesell as a student representative on the Work Group.
Council Member Brown has indicated that she will not be able to attend all of the Work Group’s meetings and is not be able to join me as co-convenor. She is agreeable to someone taking her place on the Work Group. Council Member Strom has volunteered to take her place and serve as co-convenor. The attached resolution would appoint Council Member Strom in Council Member Brown’s place. Council Member Brown has expressed an interest in attending the meetings when she is able.
Our process for appointing committee members has yielded one graduate student representative, Lee Conner. Brittany Whitesell, co-founder of the Carolina Rental Advocacy Group (CRAG), a new student organization formed to address off-campus rental housing issues, has also expressed interest in serving on the Work Group. Ms. Whitesell is an undergraduate and also lives in the Town. Given the relevance of this topic to students, I ask that the Council accept Ms. Whitesell as a student representative to the Work Group.
Ideally, we would solicit nominations over a period of time. However, since the first meeting of the Work Group is October 19, it is advisable that all members be in place. Based on Ms. Whitesell’s willingness to serve as the student representative, I ask that the Council adopt the attached resolution, approving her appointment.
The appointment of the student representative will expand the number on this Work Group from 12 to 13.

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council hereby appoints Council Member Bill Strom to the Rental Licensing Work Group.

A RESOLUTION NOMINATING AND APPOINTING A STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE TO THE RENTAL LICENSING WORK GROUP (2000-10-11/R-10b)
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council hereby nominates and appoints Brittany Whitesell as a student representative to the Rental Licensing Work Group.
