Check-out privileges are slightly different for temporary
residents.
Books may be returned in the outside book drop, located in the traffic circle in front of the library, or in the book drop in the lobby.
Cassettes and CDs must be returned in the special "media drop" in the lobby.
Materials not in demand may be renewed once for a total borrowing time of six weeks. Library materials may be renewed by phone or from the library's website. To renew books from the library's website:
1. Click on the "Catalog" button from the main page of the library's website.
2. Select "View your patron record."
3. Enter your name, library barcode number, and PIN (Personal Identification Number.) If you do not have a PIN, follow the instructions on the page.
4. Click on the highlighted "_ Items currently checked out."
5. You may now try to "Renew all" items or "Renew selected Items."
6. Important! Be sure to take note of all new due dates and any messages. Some items may not be renewable.
Non renewable items include Friends' books, music CDs, and fiction books on tape.

Requests may be made for currently checked-out items at a cost of $1.00 per title. Requests may be made in person at the circulation desk or by visiting the library website.
To make a request over the web:
1. Click on the "Catalog" button from the main page of the library's website.
2. Select "Search the Chapel Hill Public Library Catalog" and then choose your method of searching for the material you are seeking--Author, Title, Subject, etc.
3. Once you have determined that the library owns the material you want and you can see that the item is checked out...
4. select the Request button in the upper right hand corner of the screen. You will be asked for your name, library barcode number, and PIN (Personal Identification Number). If you do not have a PIN, you will be prompted to create one.
5. Click on the Submit button and your request will be finalized.
Reference services are available in person at the Information Desk or by telephone. There is no service on holidays.
Internet terminals for the public are located in the Reference area.
The Library appreciates donations of books, which are either added to our collection or added to the Friends of the Library's book sale.
Small donations (1-2 boxes/bags) may be brought to the reception desk.
Greater quantities should be delivered to the staff entrance.
Please request a tax receipt if you need one, and be prepared to provide the number of books and estimate the dollar value of the donations.
Patrons may dial into the library catalog, view their own records, and renew books via modem using the following number:

Mail-in forms are available at the Reception Desk near the front of the Library.
From January 2 through April 15, the Library distributes forms in the lobby for federal and state personal income tax returns. After April 15 master copies available.
