The Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership and the Town of Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department have partnered to present this Locally Grown Entertainment Series on the fourth Friday of the month this summer in Downtown Chapel Hill.

Locally Grown is a series of special events featuring local entertainers and family friendly activities and an open air market in Downtown Chapel Hill this summer. Our mission is to promote the downtown community by encouraging people and families to come downtown and shop, eat and be local patrons for businesses throughout the downtown district.

Join us on West Franklin Street from 6pm-8pm for street performers, and also on East Rosemary Street at the James C Wallace Plaza from 7pm-10:30pm, atop the parking deck at 150 E. Rosemary Street. For more information see our Locally Grown Web Pages.

Modern Dance Performance

The Ebone Dancers, along with other local groups, will come together to close the Hargraves Ebone Dancer’s season.  Join us for this free performance at the Hargraves Center, Friday, June 20 at 7:00 p.m.  For additional information, please contact Andre Boynton at 969-2057.

July Fourth Celebration

Each year the Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation Department in cooperation with UNC hosts a patriotic July Fourth Fireworks Display at UNC’s Kenan Stadium on July 4th.  Featuring a live concert and gate attractions face painting, magic and juggling, this is surely an event geared towards family fun and a community celebration. The Fireworks shoot at 9:30pm sharp, and are view from inside the stadium only. So it’s always a good idea to get to the stadium early to get your self parked and inside the stadium in time for the live entertainment at 8pm. The concession stands are always open, as no coolers or other food and drink are allowed inside the stadium. For more information on parking, For more information please call us at 919-968-2784.

The Town of Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation Department is proud to sponsor our Annual Festifall Arts and Crafts Street Fair in downtown Chapel Hill, Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Everything from live music and original arts & crafts to a Kids Zone will be displayed at this premier fall spectacular. We invite arts & craft exhibitors and entertainers to apply by the July 18, 2008 deadline. Limited space is available.

Homegrown Halloween

Town Manager Roger L. Stancil has announced that the Town of Chapel Hill is introducing "Homegrown Halloween in Chapel Hill," a 2008 campaign to return Halloween on Franklin Street to its roots as a small town community gathering and reduce crowd sizes that have become unmanageable.

Chapel Hill to Celebrate Arbor Day
Friday, November 21, 2008

To celebrate Arbor Day, the Town of Chapel Hill will hold a tree-planting ceremony at 1:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Town Operations Center, 6850 Millhouse Road. During the ceremony, the Town will receive its Tree City USA Award and a Growth Award for 2007 from the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources. Chapel Hill Town Council Members Jim Ward and Ed Harrison will be present to receive the award and to read the Arbor Day Proclamation. Students from Morris Grove Elementary School also will participate in the Arbor Day celebration and tree planting. This is the ninth year that Chapel Hill has received national recognition as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation. 2007 was the fourth time in 9 years that the Town achieved additional recognition for its urban forestry program and was honored with a Growth Award as a supplement to the Tree City USA certification. Egg Hunt Celebration

The Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation Department, co-sponsored with the Carrboro Recreation & Parks Department and the Orange County Parks & Recreation Department will present a spring celebration for children ages 2-10 years on Saturday, April 4 from 9:30 to 12:00 noon, Location to be announced. Health on the Block

Health on the Block is an annual free event held by NC Health Careers Access Program Ambassadors. The purpose of Health on the Block is to offer free healthcare to the community. Vendors from the UNC School of Dentistry, the Public Health Department, and the UNC School of Medicine will offer free dental screenings, free blood pressure checks, information on blood donation, platelet donation, and proper breast cancer check techniques. Dixie Rock 20 Competition
Friday-Saturday, April 24-25, 2009

Join us for our annual indoor climbing wall competition at our newly renovated community center!  This event is the longest running climbing competition known in the nation.  We welcome climbers to begin preliminaries on Friday night starting at 6:00 p.m.  Action resumes on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and heats up for the finals at 7:00 p.m.   This competition is geared toward all climbing skill levels, including several youth categories.  For additional information and application packets call us at 919-968-2784.

A free event for the whole family, Earth Action Day will provide a fun-filled afternoon of learning more about our planet and the human relationship with the environment through demonstrations, performances, and activities by and for all ages.
