Locally Grown is a nine week series of Live Concerts and Outdoor Movies featuring local entertainers and family friendly activities in Downtown Chapel Hill this summer. Presented every Thursday June 18 thru August 20 on the Wallace Plaza, an urban park atop the Wallace Parking Deck at 150 East Rosemary Street.
Our Movies series has a family friendly theme, and all movies begin on the rooftop at sundown (~8:30pm) on our huge 12’ x 7’ inflatable movie screen. Educational music and dance performances will open before each movie night at 7pm. Movie nights also feature free popcorn, children’s activities such as face painting and crafts with Kidzu Children’s Museum, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and a misting tent.

Suzanne McDonald incorporates instruments and movement in song to lead children to acquire basic music competency. Her methods build a strong foundation needed in all musical pursuits in a fun, relaxed, playful environment. On June 25th her performance is a opportunity to enjoy music as a family, to make new friends and learn to weave music into daily life, in a creative, nurturing way. MBW-MIXED BLOOD WOMAN crafts custom-designed workshops and residencies designed to explore and enrich different concepts through the use of dance and choreography as an expressive, reactive and narrative tool. At our dance play session, artistic director, Maura Michelle Garcia will play choreography games with children demonstrating some of the tools that she uses in her workshop and to create work. Grandma Knõz (rhymes with toes) has been entertaining and educating in the Triangle since 2000. She incorporates story-telling and arts into interdisciplinary educational experiences. Join her on July 16th to explore What’s for Dinner?- a show featuring LIVE animals and a hands-on interactive presentation of how and what animals have for dinner. Lead by coach Ray Fredrick, The Bouncing Bulldogs Rope Skipping Demonstration perform hundreds of synchronized tricks, maneuvers, and dances using a combination of single and double dutch ropes. Their innovative rope skipping style includes fancy footwork, flips, and other acrobatic tricks. They perform worldwide in front of thousands of spectators every year and have won numerous awards.
