Summary of Public
Comment from
Northside
Neighborhood Conservation District Advisory Committee
Community Forum
November 19, 2003
The Northside Neighborhood
Conservation District Advisory Committee held a Community forum on Wednesday
November 19, 2003 from 7 -8 pm. The
meeting was held at the Hargraves Center on North Roberson Street. Notices of the meeting were mailed to
property owners and residents within the District boundaries.
Residents asked for clarification
about Neighborhood Conservation District (i.e. what does floor area ratio
address, who was involved in the process) and offered the following comments:
- The Committee should reconsider establishing a
maximum house size. As people make
more money, they may want to expand their homes and could not do this
under the proposed guidelines.
- A resident stated that if she could not add on to her
800 square foot house and meet the floor area ratio limit and height
requirement, she would consider moving out of the neighborhood.
- A resident stated that he did not want another
Warehouse apartment building in the community, but the 20 foot primary
height limit was not high enough, and he would prefer a primary height
limit of 29 feet.
- High-priced housing is changing character of the
neighborhood.
- It is not fair to restrict people that inherit
property.
- Most new homes have more bathrooms than bedrooms. The
1:1 ratio proposed is unrealistic.
- It is a good idea to notify residents within 1000
feet of a Zoning Compliance Permit application.
