Sykes Street Steering Committee (SSSC) Meeting

April 10, 2003

In attendance:   Delores Bailey- Community Organizer, Loryn Barnes - Chapel Hill Planning Department, Jane Farrar - resident, Joann Shirer Mitchell – Chapel Hill / Carrboro Resident’s Council, Heather Deutsch – Planning Intern

 

            The Sykes Street Steering Committee reviewed the “Recommendation for Membership to the Northside Neighborhood Conservation District Committee” which will be presented to the Mayor and Town Council on April 14th, 2003.  The document recommends the appointment of members from the Northside Neighborhood Assoc., the Northside Neighborhood Watch, the Sykes Street Steering Committee, Investors/Developers, Northside Residents, and an At-Large member.  Residents who had been nominated during the last SSSC meeting and had since been contacted and had agreed to serve on the Committee as well as those positions that still needed to be filled were discussed.  At list of potential Chairs for the Committee were proposed.  It was also presented that additional interested members of the community would be able to join the committee, that the meetings would be open to the public and that the press would be notified of each meeting. 

            Upcoming dates and events were discussed.  They included: April 14th (Council Meeting to discuss Recommendations), April 24th (Northside Association Meeting), May 1st or 8th (first Northside Neighborhood Conservation Committee Meeting), May 10th (Hargraves Center Opening), May 19th (open Council Meeting to discuss lifting duplex ban), and August 5th (National Night Out / Northside Block Party).  

            The next meeting of the SSSC is tentatively scheduled to take place before the first Northside Neighborhood Conservation Committee Meeting on either May 1st or May 8th.
