Shooting Suspect Charged with Murder

On Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at approximately 1:50 p.m., the Chapel Hill Police responded to a reported shooting in the area of Sykes Street and Gomains Avenue. Upon arrival officers found the victim lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the back.  While on scene officers received information that the suspect fled the area operating a burgundy Cavalier.  The suspect was taken into custody minutes later after he and the vehicle were located on Crest Drive in Chapel Hill.  The victim, Marshall Ralph Brown, (51) of Chapel Hill reportedly died at UNC Hospital from his injuries. 

William Albert Stroud, DOB 06/17/80 of 222 Knolls Street, Chapel Hill has been charged with First Degree Murder and is currently being held in Orange County under no bond.
