On February 27, 2006, Marvin Malecha, Dean of the College of Design at North Carolina State University, reported to the Council on the peer review design process undertaken in conjunction with the Ram Development Company’s design team for the Downtown Economic Development Initiative.
On October 24, 2005, the Council authorized a Memorandum of Understanding with Ram Development Company.
On March 10, 2005, the Town issued a Request for Proposals to five firms selected based on their responses to the Request for Qualifications.
On December 13, 2004, the Town issued a Request for Qualifications inviting developers to respond with statements of qualifications as a first step toward selecting a developer for the project.
The financial feasibility analysis examines key issues, including costs associated with the project, how the public-private development could be financed, and options for phasing the development of the sites over time.
The Report summarizes design concepts developed by the public at design workshops in February and March 2002. The workshops focused on Town Parking Lots 2 and 5 and other key parcels in the Town Center. The Town Council received the report but has not formally endorsed any of the concepts.
The Plan was adopted by the Town Council in March 2000 as a component of the 2000 Comprehensive Plan.
