A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO REDUCE THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT ON POPE ROAD TO 35 MPH BETWEEN EPHESUS CHURCH ROAD AND OLD DURHAM-CHAPEL HILL ROAD ALONG THE DURHAM-CHAPEL HILL BORDER (2006-02-13/R-7)

 

WHEREAS, Pope Road forms part of the border between urbanized and developing areas of Chapel Hill and Durham; and

 

WHEREAS, the existing speed limit on Pope Road is 40mph between Ephesus Church Road and Old Durham-Chapel Hill Road; and

 

WHEREAS, the typical speed limit for similar streets in and around municipalities is 35mph;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council requests that the North Carolina Department of Transportation reduce the regulatory speed limit from 40mph to 35mph on Pope Road between Ephesus Church Road and Old Durham-Chapel Hill Road.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the City of Durham along with the Town’s request that Durham concur with the assignment of a 35mph speed limit on Pope Road as described above.
