A RESOLUTION REVISING THE FIRST PHASE OF DEVELOPMENT FOR THE SOUTHERN COMMUNITY PARK AND INDICATING THE COUNCIL’S INTENT TO INCREASE THE PROJECT BUDGET BY $681,000 (2006-04-24/R-5)

 

WHEREAS, on May 9, 2005, the Council approved the Special Use Permit application for the Southern Community Park; and

 

WHEREAS, on June 27, 2005, the Council accepted a $500,000 Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Grant and revised the park program; and

 

WHEREAS, on January 9, 2006, the Council received a petition asking that a number of issues related to parking and safety on Dogwood Acres Drive be considered; and

 

WHEREAS, in April 2006, the Town received revised cost estimates for the park that indicated a rise in prices by about 30 percent since the previous cost estimate was completed in December 2004; and

 

WHEREAS, in April 2006, the Project Planning Committee recommended a revised program based on neighborhood concerns, a revised budget, and increased cost estimates;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the first phase of development of the Southern Community Park shall consist of those items listed in Option 1 in the attached memorandum, and an additional in-line hockey court and basketball court for an approximate cost of $200,000.
