SUMMARY OF COMMUNITY DESIGN COMMISSION

CONCEPT PLAN COMMENTS      

 

Subject:                       Chapel Hill Kehillah Parking Lot-Change in Use 

 

Meeting Date:             April 20, 2005

 

Recommendation:      That the comments of the Commission be forwarded to the applicant.

 

Vote: Unanimous to forward comments by members present: Mark Broadwell, George Cianciolo (Chair), Dale Coker, Chris Culbert, Laura King Moore, Charlotte Newby, Scott Radway, Jonathan Whitney

 

General Comments

1.      The proposed use received favorable comments from the Community Design Commission.  Several Commissioners stated that the proposed use was an appropriate and  reasonable use of the land.  Another Commissioner stated that the proposed parking lot was a great dual use of the property and supported the project going forward.

 

Lighting

2.      Two Commissioners expressed a concern with lighting the parking area.  One Commission member  stated that the applicant needs to provide adequate lighting for evening parking.  Another Commissioner supported lighting the parking lot, however noted that the lighting needs to conform to the Town’s lighting standards and minimize spillage onto adjacent residential properties.

 

Landscaping

3.      One Commission member recommended that the applicant provide adequate landscaping around the proposed parking area.

 

Parking Lot Design and Maintenance

4.      A Commissioner suggested the proposed parking lot plan include numbered parking spaces.

 

5.      One Commission member noted that the existing gravel lot will experience increased  maintenance cost with the additional traffic that will be generated by the proposed parking lot.
