subject: Recommendation on Orange County Request for Council Member Appointment to Orange County Economic Development Commission

We recommend that the Town Council appoint a Council Member to serve on the Orange County Economic Development Commission.
At the Council’s meeting on May 8, 2006, the Town Council referred a letter to Mayor Kevin Foy from Keith Cook, chair, Orange County Economic Development Commission, to the Mayor’s Committee on Economic Development Professional for a recommendation to the Council. The letter of April 27, 2006 requested that the Council consider appointing a Council member to serve on the Economic Development Commission (please see Attachment 1).
The Committee met to consider the request on May 23, 2006. The Committee decided to recommend to the Council adding a Council member to the Orange County Economic Development Commission. The Committee felt this step would be a useful way to maintain a cooperative and collegial approach with Orange County and would contribute to a coordinated approach to economic development within the County.
We recommend that the Council appoint one of its members to the Economic Development Commission to facilitate cooperation and coordination of economic development efforts with Orange County. Should the Council wish to make the appointment tonight, a proposed resolution is attached for your consideration.
