Town of Chapel Hill Municipal Operations

Town Building Electricity

            ▪ Develop inventory of opportunities, installation schedule, and funding model to

purchase and install energy efficient building technologies, such as motion sensors & timers on light switches, green roofs, window retrofits, adding/extending awnings, improving climate control at points of ingress & egress, energy efficient climate control systems, etc.    

            ▪ Set goals to acquire percentage of electricity from clean energy, especially

solar technology

            ▪ Increase product procurement efforts to use more energy efficient models

            ▪ Create energy conservation ordinance

Natural Gas

            ▪ Replace natural gas with renewable fuels

            ▪ Replace or convert equipment to burn renewable fuels

Streetlights

            ▪ Replace or retrofit with energy efficient hardware

Municipal Buses

            ▪ Explore range of vehicle types and fuel options

Municipal Vehicles

            ▪ Explore range of vehicle types and fuel options

Employee Commuting

            ▪ Develop and implement a commuter alternatives plan, including incentives for

alternative transportation to and from work, and disincentives for single- occupant vehicle use.

            ▪ Increase funding for bicycle and pedestrian facilities throughout town

            ▪ Increase funding for expanded transit.
