Re:	Creation of a Chapel Hill Youth Council

Mayor Foy and Council Members:

We are writing to ask the Council to consider starting a Youth Council in Chapel Hill.  In North Carolina, a youth council is made up of a diverse group of young people who plan and implement projects that benefit the community.  Youth Councils are usually affiliated with local governments.

We have discussed the possibility with several members of the Council.  We believe that there is enough interest to explore the possibility.  We understand that the first step in the process is to ask the Council to refer the topic to the Town Manager so that he could advise the Council on how to proceed.  We submit this petition to ask the Council to do so tonight.
