Adoption of the Composite Countywide Plan for Parks and Trails |

The attached resolution would adopt the proposed Composite Countywide Plan for Parks and Trails.
In 2005, the elected Boards of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough, Mebane, and Orange County authorized the creation of a countywide inventory of current and planned park and trail facilities. The Report was created by Orange County staff with input from the staffs of other Orange County jurisdictions.
In March 2006, the Orange County Intergovernmental Work Group distributed the proposed Plan for comments.
The proposed Composite Countywide Plan for Parks and Trails is intended to be a planning document to help the five Orange County jurisdictions plan for future parks and trails. The document provides information on all major county recreation facilities, both existing and planned, in one document.
The Plan also recommends that the jurisdictions review the Plan every two years.
Comment: The Greenways Commission noted that the Southern Community Park was listed in a section titled “Future Trails” when it should be in the list for “Future Parks.” We believe that this is a minor error that can be corrected by Orange County staff in the final printing of the document. We will notify Orange County staff and ask that the reference be corrected.
Greenways Commission Recommendation: The Commission met on October 25, 2006 and voted unanimously (6-0) to recommend that the Council adopt the Plan with one change. Please see the attached recommendation.
Parks and Recreation Commission Recommendation: The Commission met on September 15, 2006 and voted unanimously (10-0) to recommend that the Council adopt the Plan. Please see the attached recommendation.
Staff Recommendation: That the Council adopt the attached resolution which would adopt the Composite Countywide Plan for Parks and Trails with one minor change.
