A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING VIDEO PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS AND THANKING UNC-CHAPEL HILL JOURNALISM FACULTY AND STUDENTS (2007-01-08/R-7)

WHEREAS, the Town Information Officer sought assistance with producing messages to help convey information about Town services and facilities to the citizens of Chapel Hill; and

WHEREAS, Professor Richard Simpson, Adjunct Professor Bruce Curran and students of JMOC 333 (Video Communication for Public Relations and Marketing) produced video Public Service Announcements (PSAs) during the fall 2006 semester as a service to the Town; and

WHEREAS, the class collaborated closely with Town staff members to produce messages that promote the area greenway system, how to use the bicycle racks on Chapel Hill Transit buses; and encourage University students to help build community in our neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, the Town intends to broadcast the video PSAs on Government Cable 18 and share the video PSAs with other broadcasting outlets in the area for broad public dissemination; and

WHEREAS, the journalism class produced the video PSAs at no cost to the Town;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council accepts the video PSAs.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council expresses its gratitude to Professor Richard Simpson, and Adjunct Professor Bruce Curran, the School of Journalism and Mass communication and the JOMC 333 students including Mary Boyd Harris, Cassie Criswell, Cait Legacki, Courtney Davis, Kathryn Miller, Lisa Collins, Elaine Erteschik, Jenny Alonso and Nick Goettsch for their hard work and service to the Chapel Hill community.
