At the January 8, 2007 Business Meeting, the Council asked me to begin discussions with Chancellor Moeser about the process for developing a zone for the University’s Carolina North property.
Last Friday, January 19, 2007, the Town Manager and I met with the Chancellor and key University staff. The Chancellor was amenable to beginning the process soon.
We discussed a two-level structure to develop the zone. The first would be a policy-level, collaborative Oversight Group, composed of Council members and University trustees. This Oversight Group would guide a consultant to work with a technical working group of University and Town staff.
In developing the zone, the consultant and the working group would rely on the Leadership Advisory Committee and Horace Williams Citizens Committee reports, as well as, the Land Use Management Ordinance.
Tonight, we should discuss if this is a workable structure and what the best next steps might be.
