September 11, 2006 Status: The Council hosted a forum on a Wireless Municipal Network on May 18, 2006. On June 26, 2006 the Council reviewed a proposal to appoint a committee to study the wireless network feasibility and chose instead to request the Manager to provide a proposal for developing a master technology plan that would include considerations for a wireless network.
November 6, 2006 Status: Proposal for development of a Master Technology Plan beginning with a technology needs assessment under review.
February 12, 2007 Status: The process of developing a Master Technology Plan has begun with three initial steps. A consultant was hired to conduct a technology needs assessment and will provide a report by April 2007. A wireless study group with participation from the staffs of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Information Technology Services and the North Carolina League of Municipalities was formed and will make a report to the Council in March 2007. A technology review team composed of Town staff was formed to review Town technology projects and provide recommendations to the Town Manager.
