A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING AND REFERRING THE DOWNTOWN PARKING CITIZENS COMMITTEE REPORT AND EXPRESSING THANKS TO THE DOWNTOWN PARKING CITIZENS COMMITTEE (2007-02-26/R-11)

 

WHEREAS, the Council authorized the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee to review the goals of the Comprehensive Plan and Downtown Small Area Plan related to downtown parking; review past parking reports and surveys by the Town, the University, the Chamber of Commerce and others, including the 2004 LSA Associates report; and update the LSA survey of parking spaces in the downtown to determine ownership, use patterns, use regulations, and other relevant information;

WHEREAS, the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee examined the need for additional parking by geographic sector, taking into account potential development; and

WHEREAS, the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee examined the cost to the Town to provide the current parking services and alternate service arrangements including free parking; and

WHEREAS, the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee evaluated options for revising development regulations related to the provision of parking in downtown; and

WHEREAS, the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee proposed an implementation plan for addressing the identified downtown parking needs, and developed strategies to carry out the plan; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council accepts the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee Report and refers the report to the Town Manager for comments and recommendations.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council expresses its gratitude to the members of the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee for their hard work and service to the Chapel Hill community.
