A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING IMPLEMENTATION STEPS FOR DOWNTOWN PARKING (2007-03-26/R-8)

WHEREAS, on May 8, 2006, the Council established the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee to make recommendations to the Council on parking in the downtown; and

WHEREAS, the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee submitted its report to the Town Council on February 26, 2007; and

WHEREAS, on February 26, 2007 the Council referred the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee Report to the Town Manager for review and a report on next steps;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council authorizes the Town Manager to implement an immediate strategy to offer a trial period during the month of May to offer the first hour free parking in the Wallace Deck.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council authorizes the Manager to contract for professional services to review the Downtown Parking Citizens Committee Report and make an assessment and recommendations on a Downtown Parking Implementation Plan for Chapel Hill, as described in this memorandum.
