AGENDA #15

FROM: |
Human Services Advisory Board Larry Daquioag, Chair |
SUBJECT: |
2007-2008 Funding Level Recommendation |
DATE: |
April 18, 2007 |
The purpose of this memorandum is to present a recommendation for total funding for human services for fiscal year 2007-2008.
Each year the Human Services Advisory Board presents a recommendation for funding human services to the Town Council as part of the budget process. The Human Services Advisory Board attended the February 28 Budget Work Session to provide the Council with information on the expected funding needs of human service agencies serving Chapel Hill residents. This year, the Town has received funding requests from 46 local non-profit human service agencies, totaling $354,379. The Board is currently conducting hearings for each agency to present their proposals for human service programs. These meetings are scheduled for eight weeks from March 26 through June 4. The Board expects to present specific agency allocation recommendations to the Town Council in June.
For fiscal year 2006-2007, the Town Council approved human service allocations that totaled $225,000 distributed among 43 agencies. The allocations have been at $225,000 for the past two years.
Support for human service agencies is one of the important services the Town provides to the community. We ask the Council to continue to support these valuable programs and ask that the current level of $225,000 be increased to $250,000 for 2007-2008.
