AGENDA #4

BUDGET WORKING PAPER

TO:

Roger l. Stancil, Town Manager

FROM:

Bill Letteri, Public Works Director

SUBJECT:

New Groundskeeper Position Related to Town Operations Center

DATE:

April 18, 2007

PURPOSE

The purpose of this memorandum is to request the inclusion of an additional groundskeeper position in 2007-08 to accommodate workload demands related to the new Town Operations Center.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

Last year in a budget working paper we provided detailed cost information relative to our relocation to the new Town Operations Center.  Included in the report was the need to add a groundskeeper to our staff in order to properly maintain the landscape areas at the new site without negatively impacting other existing areas that we maintain.  The inclusion of the new position was deferred to FY 2007-08 to coincide with our occupancy of the new facility.

A detailed analysis of labor requirements by task indicated that comparable grounds maintenance services would increase from 396 labor hours to approximately 1,826 labor hours.  Consistent with our budget discussions last year, $38,500 needs to be included in the 2007-08 budget to allow for the new groundskeeper position.

PROPOSAL

We request that one full-time groundskeeper position be added to the Landscape Division at a cost of $38,500 to assist in the additional workload requirements at the new Town Operations Center.
