The purpose of this cover memorandum is to forward the interim report from the Connectivity Working Group. The report discusses considerations for municipal wireless services in Chapel Hill.
Dr. Shannon Schelin of the School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will present the interim report on behalf of the group.
At the November 6, 2006 Business Meeting, the Town Council adopted a resolution authorizing the Town Manager to enter into discussions with The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Vice Chancellors for the School of Government and for Information Technology and staffs, and the Information Technology and Research staff of the North Carolina League of Municipalities for the purpose of investigating the feasibility of a Town-wide wireless system.
The result of those discussions was the participation of staff members from the University and the League of Municipalities in a study group with Town staff members to investigate the feasibility of establishing wireless services in Chapel Hill through municipal sponsorship.
We look forward to receiving the comments and direction from the Council regarding the report.
