A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING INTERIM LANE STRIPING ON SOUTH COLUMBIA STREET BETWEEN MANNING DRIVE AND SOUTH ROAD TO ACCOMMODATE ONE 14-FOOT WIDE BUS LANE, TWO 12-FOOT WIDE TRAVEL LANES AND ONE 5-FOOT WIDE STRIPED BICYCLE LANE (2007-05-07/R-4)

WHEREAS, the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill is interested in optimizing the operation of South Columbia Street between Manning Drive and South Road for all users; and

WHEREAS, the Council received a petition from the Town Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board requesting a five-foot wide designated bicycle lane on South Columbia Street between Manning Drive and South Road; and

WHEREAS, the Council has considered information on a variety of alternatives for modifying conditions and controls on South Columbia Street between Manning Drive and South Road; and

WHEREAS, the University has agreed to install interim lane striping to include a designated bicycle lane on South Columbia Street between Manning Drive and South Road provided such striping is approved by the Town Council and the State;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council authorizes the following interim lane striping on South Columbia Street between Manning Drive and South Road:
