Budget Amendment: Regional Transportation Planning Projects |
DATE: |
May 7, 2007 |
This memorandum summarizes the Town’s participation in several regional transportation planning projects. The attached budget amendment would provide additional funding for the Chapel Hill share of these projects.
The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization has initiated several regional transportation planning projects designed to support regional efforts to improve the regional transportation planning model and implement the adopted Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Regional Transportation Plan.
These projects include:
Enhancement and Update of Triangle Regional Model
Land Use Model Development
Southwest Durham/Southeast Chapel Hill Collector Street Plan
GIS Centralization and Data Automation Project
Non-motorized Trip Model
Intelligent Transportation System Development
Household Travel Survey
On Board Transit Survey
The total cost of these projects is approximately $1.4 million. The projects have been funded from the federal Surface Transportation Program Direct Allocation program, which requires a 20 percent local match. The local match for these projects has been allocated to Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization member jurisdictions based on population. The total Chapel Hill contribution is $52,514.
In the 2006-2007 Chapel Hill budget the Council set aside $42,237 for the Town’s portion of the local share. We will need to allocate an additional $10,277 to fully fund the Town’s local share.
That the Council approve the attached budget amendment providing $10,277 from Council contingency for use towards the Chapel Hill local match for regional transportation planning projects.
