Mayor and Town Council Town of Chapel Hill Town Hall
RE: Petition for Council endorsement of NC Senate Bill 670 - Energy Devices That Use Renewable Resources
Dear Mayor Foy and Members of the Chapel Hill Town Council:
The Chamber is committed to the triple bottom line of sustainability: environmental stewardship, social equity and economic prosperity. On behalf of our members and the local business community, we ask that you join the Chamber in support of NC Senate Bill 670 on renewable energy production and give it your formal endorsement.
NC S670 will prevent local governing bodies and homeowners associations from prohibiting the installation of energy devices that are based on the utilization of renewable resources. This legislation speaks directly to the use of solar collectors for their photovoltaic and water heating potential.
The Chapel Hill Town Council has previously taken special interest in issues of sustainability through the Million Solar Roofs Initiative, efforts to improve the energy efficiency in development projects and the creation of a Sustainability Committee. We feel that NC S670 is in line with these initiatives and is well worth supporting.
Your support will affirm your role in promoting sustainability and send a strong message to our state legislators.
Thank you for your consideration,
Aaron Nelson President and CEO
