A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES ON SEVERAL TOWN STREETS (2007-05-21/R-6)

WHEREAS, the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill is concerned about vehicular and non-vehicular safety and mobility on Town streets; and

WHEREAS, the Council adopted formal Traffic Calming Policy and Procedures on June 30, 2004; and

WHEREAS, the Council received a report and recommendations from the Town Manager, including ranking and priority, for several traffic calming projects on local streets in Chapel Hill; and

WHEREAS, the Council also received recommendations from the Transportation Board regarding the Manager’s traffic calming report and recommendations;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council authorizes the Manager to proceed with the installation of traffic calming measures at the locations described below:

Legion Road Extension: 1-Speed table

Meadowmont Neighborhood:

Faison Road: 2-Speed tables

Simerville Rd: 2-Speed tables and 1-Raised crosswalk

West Barbee Chapel Road: 2-Raised crosswalks

Meadowmont Lane: 1-Speed table

Faison Road and Falkner Drive: All-way stop control

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council authorizes the expenditure of up to $36,000 from 2003 Street and Sidewalk Improvement Bonds for construction/installation of the above noted traffic calming measures.
