SUMMARY OF BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN
ADVISORY BOARD ACTION
Subject: Bicycle Lanes on NC 86/Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
– Follow-up on Pedestrian/Bicycle Safety Study
Meeting Date: June 5, 2007
Recommendation: In the scenario where there is insufficient paved width to restripe the road to include bicycle lanes (without widening the paved cross section. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board endorses the staff recommendation pending approval from the North Carolina Department of Transportation for:
· striped bicycle lanes on the portion of NC 86/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Homestead Road and Barclay Road, and
· wide outside lanes and continued pursuit of permission to pilot the use of the shared arrow (“Sharrow”) marking for the section south of Barclay Road to North Street
Vote: 8 – 0.
