A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO ACCEPT $80,000 FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA STUDENT BODY FOR THE INSTALLATION OF PEDESTRIAN-LEVEL STREET LIGHTING IMPROVEMENTS AND THREE EMERGENCY CALL BOXES IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA OF CHAPEL HILL (2007-09-24/R-7)

WHEREAS, the UNC Student Body has requested the installation of pedestrian-level street lighting improvements and emergency call boxes in the downtown area of Chapel Hill to improve pedestrian safety conditions; and

WHEREAS, the UNC Student Body has offered to provide a total of $80,000 to fund the installation of pedestrian-level street lighting improvements and emergency call boxes; and

WHEREAS, Town staff and student body representatives agreed on the following improvement recommendations:

  1. Install pedestrian-level street lighting in the following areas using up to $40,000 to be provided by the UNC Student Body:
  2. Install emergency call boxes at the following three locations using up to $40,000 to be provided by the UNC Student Body:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council authorizes the Town Manager to accept on behalf of the Town $80,000 from the UNC Student Body for installation of pedestrian-level street lighting improvements ($40,000) and installation of three emergency call boxes ($40,000) in the downtown area of Chapel Hill.
