Dear Registered Vehicle Owner:

A concerned citizen reported to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department that a vehicle registered in your name violated a North Carolina traffic statute.  Specifically, the Citizen reported that on June 27th, 2003, your vehicle, and a 1986 tag number ???????? was observed speeding, and cutting in front of another car.  The citizen reported that this violation occurred at 7:25 p.m. with no location given.

This letter does not constitute a form of enforcement action, nor will the reported violation be forwarded to the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles or to your insurance company.  By sending you this letter, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department hopes to bring to your attention the fact that the operator of your vehicles was reported driving in an unsafe or reckless manner.  Had your vehicle’s actions been observed by a law enforcement officer, the driver could well have been cited or arrested with the resulting fine and driver license and insurance points applied upon conviction.  Worse, your vehicle could have caused an accident resulting in property damage, injury or death.

We hope this letter will serve as a reminder that traffic violations are a leading cause of injury or death in Mecklenburg County.  We hope your vehicle will be operated in a safe manner in the future.

Sincerely,

Darrel W. Stephens

Chief of Police
