A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH KIMLEY-HORN AND ASSOCIATES, INC. FOR DESIGN OF A TOWN-OWNED FIBER OPTIC CABLE SYSTEM.  (2007-10-22/R-5)

WHEREAS, the Town is engaging in a project with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to upgrade the Town’s traffic signal system; and

WHEREAS, the Town is engaging in a process to install fiber optic cable for the Town of Chapel Hill in conjunction with the traffic signal system upgrade; and

WHEREAS, the Town Council and Town Staff are committed to providing a high level of technology facilities and services that could best be achieved via a Town-owned fiber optic cable network; and

WHEREAS, the Town would require professional services to design such a fiber optic cable network that would be compatible with, and could be installed in conjunction with, the NCDOT traffic signal system upgrade project.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Town Manager is authorized to enter into an agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., at a cost not to exceed $50,000, for design of a Town-owned fiber optic cable system that could be installed in conjunction with the traffic signal system upgrade project being administered by the State.
