A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE REPORT OF THE COUNCIL COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC ART EFFORTS AND AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR A PUBLIC ARTS ADMINISTRATOR AND TO WORK WITH THE PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION CHAIR ON A TRANSITION PLAN AND REPORT BACK TO THE COUNCIL ON NOVEMBER 19, 2007.  (2007-10-22/R-7)

WHEREAS, the Town Council appointed a committee of the Council to consider its efforts on behalf of public art; and,

WHEREAS, the Council directed the committee to assess the arrangement whereby the Town contracts with a private organization to carry out its public art objectives, to consider how the Town should maintain its growing collection of public arts and to achieve the goal of integrating public art with all Town functions; and

WHEREAS, the Council directed the committee to include Town staff and representatives of the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission in its discussions and to seek ways to preserve the volunteer element of public art; and,

WHEREAS, the committee has met these objectives and presented its findings and recommendations to the Council at the Council Meeting October 22, 2007;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council accepts the Committee’s Report and authorizes the Town Manager to advertise for a Public Arts Administrator and to work with the Public Arts Commission Chair on a transition plan and report back to the Council on November 19, 2007.
