SUBJECT:	Dissolving Million Solar Roofs Steering Committee

In October 2006, the Council was petitioned by the Million Solar Roofs Steering Committee (MSRSC) to be reclassified as a permanent Town Committee, and to incorporate into their charge the promotion of sustainable energy and energy efficiency in buildings and related facilities.  Among the reasons for this change included discontinued funding, expanding the charter of the committee, and responding to recent Council Sustainability initiatives. 

In March 2007, the SEE Committee responded to this petition and recommended that the MSRSC be dissolved and that a new, more broadly focused committee be formed to address sustainability, including sustainable energy, for the Town. 

Responding to the SEE Committee’s recommendation, in May 2007, Town Staff made recommendations to the proposed charge and composition of a Town Sustainability Committee.  Town Staff agreed with the SEE Committee’s proposal and recommended adoption of a resolution which would create a Town Sustainability Committee and establish the charge and composition of the Committee. 

This evening the Council will appoint members to this newly formed Sustainability Committee and so the MSRSC’s will effectively be dissolved.   I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge all of the time and effort the members that made up the Town’s Million Solar Roofs Steering Committee put in.
