A RESOLUTION DISSOLVING THE MILLION SOLAR ROOFS STEERING COMMITTEE (MSRSC) AND THANKING THE COMMITTEE FOR THEIR WORK (2007-11-07/R-5)

 

WHEREAS, the Town Council and Chapel Hill Community want to thank those on the Million Solar Roofs Steering Committee for there service to the Town; and

 

WHEREAS, the MSRSC provided invaluable service by keeping the Council and community informed of opportunities to expand the use of solar energy technology and  other sustainable energy issues; and

 

WHEREAS, in October 2006, the Council was petitioned by the Million Solar Roofs Steering Committee (MSRSC) to be reclassified as a permanent Town Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, in March 2007, the SEE Committee responded to this petition and recommended that the MSRSC be dissolved and that a new, more broadly focused committee be formed to address sustainability, including sustainable energy, for the Town; and

 

WHEREAS, in May 2007, Town Staff agreed with the SEE Committee’s proposal and recommended adoption of a resolution which would create a Town Sustainability Committee and establish the charge and composition of the Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, on November 7, 2007 the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill will appoint members to this newly formed Sustainability Committee;

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Million Solar Roofs Steering Committee be dissolved.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town Council extends its thanks to the members of the Million Solar Roofs Steering Committee for their time and dedication to promoting a more sustainable community for the residents of Chapel Hill.
