A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TOWN MANAGER TO INCLUDE THE NAME OF JOE HERZENBERG ON THE PLAQUE BEING PREPARED FOR INSTALLATION IN THE PEACE AND JUSTICE PLAZA IN FRONT OF THE OLD COURTHOUSE (2007-11-19/R-10)

WHEREAS, the Council has authorized the Town Manager to purchase a plaque identifying the Peace and Justice Plaza in front of the Old Courthouse and honoring the contributions of Charlotte Adams, Joe Straley and Lucy Straley;

WHEREAS, the plaque was designed to accommodate the names of additional individuals and the purchase contract for the plaque can be amended to include an additional name at this time, and

WHEREAS, the Council has received a petition from Council Member Mark Kleinscmidt requesting that the name of recently deceased community activist and advocate for social justice Joe Herzenberg be included on the plaque;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council authorizes the Town Manager to include the name of Joe Herzenberg on the plaque being prepared for installation in the Peace and Justice Plaza in front of the Old Courthouse.
