SUBJECT:	Approval of Changes to On-Street Parking Regulations on New Stateside Drive
DATE:	January 14, 2008

PURPOSE

The attached ordinance would prohibit on-street parking on New Stateside Drive near the Homestead Park as indicated below:

• North side: for approximately 365 feet in front of the park along the family house property
• South side: 50 feet on both sides of the driveway entrance to the park

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

At its May 21, 2007 meeting, the Town Council received a staff report recommending prohibition of on-street parking on New Stateside Drive near the Homestead Park.  The Town Council referred the report to the Transportation Board and the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board.

The Board’s recommendations are provided below and also shown on the area maps provided in Attachment 1.

Transportation Board Recommendation:  The board reviewed the report and made the following recommendations prohibiting on-street parking on New Stateside Drive:

• North side: for approximately 365 feet in front of the park along the Family House property
• South side: 50 feet on both sides of the driveway entrance to the park

Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board: The board reviewed the report and made the following recommendations prohibiting on-street parking on New Stateside Drive:

• North side: 50 feet on both sides of the driveway to the Family House
• South side: 50 feet on both sides of the driveway entrance and exit to the park

Town staff agrees with the Transportation Board recommendation and we continue to believe that the on-street parking should be prohibited on north side in front of the park due to the existing curvey geometric conditions of the road. If approved, Town staff will install the appropriate signs, and we will monitor the parking regulations in the area and make recommendations as needed.

RECOMMENDATION

We recommend that the Council enact the attached ordinance that would prohibit on-street parking on New Stateside Drive near the Homestead Park as indicated below:

• North side: for approximately 365 feet in front of the park along the family house property
• South side: 50 feet on both sides of the driveway entrance to the park
