RESOLUTION B

(Recommendation)

 

A RESOLUTION INDICATING THE COUNCIL’S INTEREST IN FUTURE DEVELOPMENT APPLICATIONS INCORPORATING THE REALIGNMENT OF UNIVERSITY STATION ROAD WITH A NEW ENTRANCE AT TIMBERLYNE SHOPPING CENTER (2008-01-14/R-7)

 

WHEREAS, on March 26, 2007 the Council created a Task Force to advise it how to better manage the future development in the Northern Area of Chapel Hill, including advice in developing recommendations for the Council’s consideration on design standards and appearance guidelines for the implementation of transit-oriented development along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Weaver Dairy Road and Eubanks Road, and advice in developing recommendations on pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements throughout the study area; and

 

WHEREAS, on May 21, 2007 the Council enacted a temporary moratorium on development in the Northern Area pending the preparation of Comprehensive Plan amendments and possible zoning solutions as they relate to development and the Northern Area; and

 

WHEREAS, on September 24, 2007 the Council received and referred the Northern Area Task Force Report and Chapel Hill Northern Area Workshop: Transit Oriented Development Concept Plans, for review and comment, to the Planning Board, the Transportation Board, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board, and the Community Design Commission, and the Town Manager and Attorney; and

 

WHEREAS, on November 12, 2007 the Council held a Public Hearing, required to conclude the Northern Area moratorium and to implement the Northern Area Task Force recommendations.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill that the Council hereby indicates its interest in future development applications incorporating the realignment of University Station Road with a new entrance at Timberlyne Shopping Center.
