SUBJECT: Addition of positions for the Aquatics Center

The purpose of this memo is to recommend the addition of five full time positions and one part time position for the Parks and Recreation department Aquatics Center. These positions include two assistant aquatics supervisors, two recreation assistants, one part time recreation specialist I and one lifeguard.
These additions will require no increase in the 2007-2008 Parks and Recreation base budget. Three months of funding for the full time positions was approved in the final budget for 2007-2008. Funding for the part time position was approved in the final budget for 2006-2007.
The Aquatics Center is in the final stages of construction. Recruitment to fill these positions will need to begin as soon as possible so the center will be staffed upon opening in the spring.
Recommend the enactment of the attached ordinance for the addition of these six positions to the Aquatics Center.
