Energy Efficiency:
- Orange UMC intends
to incorporate a “20 percent more energy efficient” feature relative to the
energy efficiency standard of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration
and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and agrees to provide for an
acceptable level of increased energy efficiency that ensures indoor air
quality and adequate access to natural lighting, and use of other
energy-saving measures such as energy-efficient compact fluorescent fixtures,
etc., as amended and in effect as of 2007 and;
- That other comparable standards generally recognized as
applicable to building energy consumption, as amended and in effect at the time
of building permit issuance, may be used by the applicant when incorporating
the “20 percent more energy efficient” feature into its Final Plans. Orange
UMC recognizes that sound environmental stewardship extends beyond “energy
use”to encompass a whole range of concerns. Sustainable design features currently
included at the Design Development Drawing stage are:
- Water closets are specified with dual-flush
technology - Operate flush handle up for liquid waste (0.5 GPF) and down for
solid waste (1.6 GPF).
- Urinals are specified as “waterfree”.
- Lavatories are specified with sensor operated faucets.
- Mechanical system includes an Energy Recovery Ventilator for the toilet
exhaust/classroom units’ makeup air. Sanctuary units have modulating
makeup air controlled with CO2 space sensors.
- Solar panels or other sustainable design features that are available in
the future may be included in design for future buildings shown on the Master
Plan (i.e. Family Life Center, etc.). Build out of the campus is so far into
the future, that technology and innovation may present many more options to be
considered at that time.
- Applicant shall provide an Energy Management Plan at the
time of building permit issuance that will include consideration of the
purchase of carbon offset credits and green power production through
coordination with the NC GreenPower program.
