AGENDA #4e
TO: |
Roger L. Stancil, Town Manager |
FROM: |
Ken Pennoyer, Business Management Director George Small, P.E., Engineering Director |
SUBJECT: |
Budget Amendment for Aerial Photography |
DATE: |
February 25, 2008 |
This attached budget ordinance would revise the FY2007-08 budget to account for aerial photography costs in the Engineering Department and regional cost-sharing arrangements.
Approximately every four years, the Town contracts for updated aerial photography to update our GIS database. This aerial photography is used for planning, engineering, emergency response, stormwater management and other purposes.
Typically, the Town partners with Orange County and other agencies desiring updated aerial photography and the costs are shared among all partner agencies on a pro rata basis. The flights are scheduled for March this year, prior to the onset of significant tree leaf growth. This year, Orange County will be photographed in its entirety at a total cost of $134,388 with the costs will be shared as follows:
Town of Carrboro |
$2,563 |
|
OWASA |
$857 |
Town of Hillsborough |
$7,516 |
|
Duke Forest |
$2,378 |
University of North Carolina |
$739 |
|
Orange County |
$104,040 |
The Town share ($16,295) is included in the current Engineering Department operating budget and cost sharing agreements with the partnering agencies listed above are in place for the remainder of the contract costs ($118,092). The partnering agencies would be billed by the Town for their share of the contract
The attached budget amendment would increase the Engineering Department Professional Services account by $118,092 to cover the cost of countywide aerial photography and would increase revenue by the same amount to reflect the cost-sharing agreements.
We recommend that the Council enact the attached budget ordinance.
