Subject: UNC Wesley Foundation Project

March 10, 2008

Dear Mayor Foy and Town Council Members:

I am writing concerning the UNC Wesley Foundation project. As a 2007 graduate of UNC, Wesley alum, and a Wesley Board of Directors member, this project holds great importance to me.

I became involved with Wesley my first year of college. Wesley helped to foster a strong sense of equality and social justice in me. These things directed my courses and extracurricular activities during the duration of my time at Carolina. I volunteered in the community and worked toward a degree that would allow me to create positive, tangible change in the world.

Since graduating, I have taught low-income children through the Head Start program in a rural area of Southwest Virginia, and I am now a Child Protective Services social worker in this same rural area. I plan to return to Carolina in a few years to pursue a master’s degree in a field that will continue to allow me to reach out to the disenfranchised and create change in my world.

So much of who I am today, and the person I hope to become, has been inspired by my time at the Wesley Foundation. This is true for many other members and alumni of Wesley, as well. Our current building is not sustainable. The new building project allows us to plan for the future, and allows Wesley to continue to guide students during their time at UNC, and mold them into productive citizens.

Wesley is an important part of both UNC and Chapel Hill. I strongly and respectfully urge you to support this project.

Sincerely,

Breanne Forbes Hubbard
