A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MANAGER TO ISSUE A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS TO COMPLETE A DRAFT INCLUSIONARY ZONING ORDINANCE (2008-03-17/R-6)

 

WHEREAS, the Town’s Comprehensive Plan has a goal to increase the availability of well-designed, affordable, safe, and sanitary housing for all citizens of Chapel Hill; and

 

WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan includes a policy of encouraging developers of residential developments of five or more units to provide 15% of their units at prices affordable to low and moderate income households; and

 

WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan includes a strategy to continue to seek inclusionary zoning;

 

WHEREAS, on September 25, 2005, the Council established a charge for an Inclusionary Zoning Task Force; and

 

WHEREAS, on November 20, 2006, the Inclusionary Zoning Task Force presented its findings to the Council;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council authorizes Council Members Greene and Kleinschmidt to work with the Town Manager to identify and enter into a contract for services with a consultant to complete an Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance according to principles outlined by the Inclusionary Zoning Task Force, at a cost not to exceed $10,000.
